Built in 1916, the Kennecott Recreation Hall hosted silent films, dances, and Christmas pageants for mill workers and their families. Today the Kennicott Recreation Hall is restored to its original purpose – for use by the community. It is available for the general public top use at modest rates, and for use by the National Park Service. By providing for a variety of interpretive, educational and recreational activities, the Kennecott Recreation Hall continues to serve the community much as it did 84 years ago. It is also available for weddings, conferences and special events.

In 2002, Friends of Kennicott raised funds and negotiated the restoration of this facility for use by the National Park Service, visitors and the local community. The building was cooperatively managed by the NPS and Friends of Kennicott for nine years. In 2010, Friends of Kennicott transferred non-NPS Recreation Hall management to the Wrangell Mountains Center, a locally-based  non-profit organization devoted to fostering understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of wildlands and mountain culture in Alaska through scientific and artistic inquiry in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The Center now manages the Kennecott Recreation Hall for community and private use on behalf of the National Park Service and the American public. Please see their Rec Hall webpage for booking information.
